Working in New York, Wilmarth developed a body of sculpture in which translucent, acid-etched glass is held in tension with bent steel, producing works preoccupied with light, shadow, and interiority. He taught at Columbia University and exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, which presented a significant exhibition of his work in 1971.
